Being antsy toward the end of the day today, I decided to get a good workout while my laundry was running tonight.
Now, I don't know if it was the exertion, the sweat in my eyes, or the TV screen with the talking heads and "polls of polls" predicting an Obama victory, but I had a truly terrifying thought as I panted and sweated in the weight room.
This batch of talking heads was talking about the "GOP Brand" and how it's being overtaken by a "Blue Tidal Wave." They basically agreed that the GOP is on their way out this election cycle, but pointed out that there have been many dramatic shifts in power over the last few decades - nothing is ever final in Washington.
Now, this shows you the kind of crazy shit my brain fabricates, particularly in a state of exhaustion...
I had a mental image. LANDSLIDE OBAMA VICTORY. FILIBUSTER-PROOF DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS. NOT A SINGLE REPUBLICAN UP FOR OFFICE WINS A RACE.
The Democrats essentially have unprecedented power in the US.
During the first 100 days, all their energy is spent on infighting about how to best utilize this new found power. The remaining Republicans in Congress struggle to create alliances and provide for their own political futures.
Because none of the Democrats can agree on what to do, nothing gets done. No tax plans, no healthcare reform, no Iraq withdrawal plan. No one can agree on a plan.
The GOP purges the old-guard leadership and young folks like Sarah Palin gain in strength by criticizing the Obama Administration's failure to make good.
In 2010, these new Republicans re-take control of Congress. They further prevent the Obama administration's progress. The economy tanks (further) and full-on depression falls upon the land.
2012, Sarah Palin becomes president.
Yikes.
I'm not saying that it's going to happen, but it was frightening enough that I had to share.
Or maybe that's why the Mayan Long Count ends on December 20th 2012.
